pattern

Many cycles and units can go into making a single pattern. Some patterns are small, some are almost infinite, but all are important in the study of numbers, because we very often define the characteristics of a thing by its numerological pattern.

If we start from the purely arithmantic model, we can see the simple patterns that form naturally;patterns defined by the equation of intervals that describes the sequence - like the 1-4-5 chord pattern in the blues, or the 1-2-3 pattern that means 'simplicity' in almost every language. There are, however, more interesting and important studies of numeric patterns, such as the Pythagorean Trines, that define all sets of three digits that are not repeats of one another, or the studies of patterns of weather or migration.

There are patterns that help us note progress or regress, increase and decrease, but in our studies, we are most interested in patterns that are pertinent to the inner self, and the trines of Pythagoras are one of those, to be sure. There are others, like the numerous patterns that are followed in Pyramid construction, based on 3, 4, 7 and 12, which also happens to be one of the most important patterns regarding the astrological and medical perception of the lives of human beings.

The four triplicities and the three quadratuplicities are the most basic and common divisions of the 12 sign zodiac, and these arithmantic relationships are important to the studies of the telluric zodiac of China and Tibet. The traditional camp of astrologers, in both the east and the west, use only 7 astrological planets, and count the trans Saturnian planets, the Moon's nodes and other bodies as being special cases, and some only consider the nodes as being of importance.

This pattern shows up over and over again in traditional medicine of both the east and west, and even provides us with personality types that are quite specific - and capable of predicting patterns of discomfort to both the body and the mind.

We see this particular pattern in our calendar, which has been redesigned many times to create a year of four seasons of three months each that coordinates with the movements of the Sun and Moon. Lunar calendars still exist, as do alternate solar calendars. The reason that the calendar we have today does not coordinate with our natural calendar is because it has been created for everyone in the world, and therefore has to set an arbitrary moment for the beginning of the day, rather than allowing a cosmic event to define the days, months or hours.

There is speculation, in some circles, that this disconnect from natural time may be a major source of problems in the world, but scientists who embrace this idea are hard to find and rarely challenge such a powerful concept. They can't be blamed; the calendar was designed to make life more convenient for business and power-dealings - to either go back to or create new systems that followed nature would inconvenience billions of people.

But although the calendar adheres to the pattern, it has broken the pattern away from nature, and made it sterile and dis-empowered. This was done by taking attention away from the role of the 5 in the patterns of nature. In today's world, this break is very hard to recognize, making it difficult to connect with and recover the energy that is lost through this broken connection. But we carry with us the missing 5 vibration as part of our humanity, and we can seal this fissure in our souls, and re-connect with the great pattern inherent in nature, but not without effort.

Meditation on the quality of the moment is advanced and requires a lot of study. Practices such as Swara Yoga approach this type of meditation. Probably the best thing to do is to rise before or with the Sun to experience the energy of the new day, honor the seasonal changes and the lunations (full and new Moons) with personal ceremonies of rememberance, and shift the diet to focus on foods that are available because of the natural cycle, not the business cycle. To do so will not only unlock the energy within this pattern, but also the energy in patterns such as 5-8-13, 7-13-28 and many others.
