Jiu Gong Ming Li: An Introduction To 9 Palace Fate Calculations
Compatibility
An important facet of 9 Star Ki is its amazing ability to profile relationships between people. The compatibility system is based primarily on the interactions of the WuXing that the Stars engender, but many of its "rules" are not what the practitioner of another system of 5 element based divination might expect. The year star is always the first one to consult. The month star and the daystar describe the physical and emotional/mental aspects of the relationship, but the Year star usually gives a big hint as to overall compatibility. As hinted at below, the accumulation of a certain element in the other stars may usurp the general indications of compatibility as defined by a common reading of the year star, and the best thing of all is that you need only know the birthday and age of the person about whom you are inquiring. Say for instance you are an 8 and you are interested in someone who is a 3: you would think that since the wood breaks through earth, the relationship may be unsettling or chaotic. Well, if there was some fire in either person's chart, that may balance the relationship by weakening the wood's control over earth, while supporting the earth in the chart. It's easy enough to determine if and how people will get along by looking at their Ki Stars.
Since this is something good for everyone to know, here is an abbreviated list of compatibility hints:
- 1 and 1: This relationship amounts to a sharing of interests or mild competition. They can get along well, which is good, but not romantic.
- 1 and 2: Two people who have basically nothing in common. Strong metal in the month or day numbers might help.
- 1 and 3: This is water and wood: a good relationship. A strong metal year could be troublesome unless there is some fire in both charts.
- 1 and 4: This is an almost perfect match; a love relationship based on mutual attraction.
- 1 and 5: More of a problem than 1 and 2. 5 is very strict, while 1 resents limitations, 5 practical while 1 is fun loving.
- 1 and 6: 6 is independent and wants its own way, whereas 1 tends to follow the course of circumstances. Not a good match.
- 1 and 7: Sometimes they argue, but they can get along OK. Worse for 7 than 1.
- 1 and 8: Lots of conflicts, once again because of 1's resistance to being pushed in any direction.
- 1 and 9: Actually, water and fire do not make a bad match, especially if there is wood in the equation.
- 2 and 2: No chemistry. Working together in a domestic or human care profession is fine.
- 2 and 3: The natural caution of 2 clashes with the aggressiveness of 3. There are arguments in this relationship.
- 2 and 4: This is like the 2 and 3 combination without the open display of enmity. There is bitterness and repressed feelings.
- 2 and 5: These people have much in common. 2 can accept the domineering behaviours of 5, like the wise counselor of a severe ruler.
- 2 and 6: A very harmonious match. Their relationship is both co-operative and creative; it will be fruitful.
- 2 and 7: This is another successful match. 2 is the perfect resource for 7's work in the world. Behind every successful 7 is a good 2.
- 2 and 8: This is a relationship that is both friendly and supportive. They work as a team.
- 2 and 9: The 9 produces many arguments combined with 2, but 2 is often willing to compromise: Not romantic, but not the worst match.
- 3 and 3: Both of them want to be the leader. If they each have their own area where they can lead, it will be OK but not romantic.
- 3 and 4: These work together in harmony, being the Yin and Yang of Wood. They pursue the same goals and compliment each other.
- 3 and 5: These two admire each other, but also try to dominate each other. Influence from the 6 Metal Star makes them a great team.
- 3 and 6: Another pair that are always in conflict. The White Star 1 will feed the tree and weaken the axe, and a creative team can result.
- 3 and 7: Love at first sight hate at second - big tree, small axe, lots of effort - if the tree is not cut down the axe will break - not good.
- 3 and 8: 6 Metal can help this one too by tempering the aggressiveness of the 3 Jade and the stubbornness of the 8 White.
- 3 and 9: An excellent match; even better if White Star 1 is present within the two charts. White 1 controls 9 and feeds 3, bringing balance.
- 4 and 4: These people are too alike to be romantic partners. The would make good GO partners though.
- 4 and 5: 4 is diplomatic; 5's control issues are encouraged by what it believes to be 4's respect. Not good.
- 4 and 6: Unprovoked arguments and conflicts. 4 needs better boundaries, 6 needs to relax, so White 1 may help, if available.
- 4 and 7: The book gets judged by the cover, and one day the book gets opened - White Star 1 may add some depth to the relationship.
- 4 and 8: This is like expecting one dandelion to grow in a field. White 1 may strengthen the 4 enough to bring balance.
- 4 and 9: Another excellent match that Black 2 can transform from a bonfire into a flower garden.
- 5 and 5: Too many cooks spoil the broth: unless one of the metal stars is present in both charts, they are too dominating to get along.
- 5 and 6: This is a firm partnership, and they work well together, especially if influencing others is involved. A leadership team.
- 5 and 7: This is a happy couple, full of excitement and fun. They support and complement each other on many levels.
- 5 and 8: A careful pair that make good decisions together. 8's temper 5's controlling nature. A very practical team.
- 5 and 9: This is statistically a relationship that happens often and seldom lasts. Not good for long term personal or business relationship.
- 6 and 6: A dull relationship. No surprises, no excitement, no chemistry, no romance.
- 6 and 7: Another excellent match of Yin and Yang aspects of the same type of Ki. This can be a very productive relationship.
- 6 and 8: 8 supports 6 in anything they want to do. This combination works well with business or romantic partners.
- 6 and 9: Earth Stars 2, 5 and 8 need to re-direct this pair. They do not get on so well without something to help the 6.
- 7 and 7: This relationship can be happy, but neither productive nor romantic. Fun, but not long-term.
- 7 and 8: They do very well together, the 8 brings 7's nature to life. There is much support and appreciation in this relationship.
- 7 and 9: They cannot co-operate without the influence of 2, 5 or 8. They are essentially incompatible without such moderation.
- 8 and 8: No real conflict, but a pretty dull relationship without a variety of other stars in both charts or in the current time chart.
- 8 and 9: 8 can ground 9 out to some degree, but there is constant criticism and complaints are abundant between them.
- 9 and 9: This relationship is marked with intemperance and destructiveness. You can't fight fire with fire.
Of course, this is only the beginning of relationship study: the year, month and day stars are only the tenants of the central palace among the nine palaces, all of which count for something in the relationship. For instance, what if the two clients are show business people? If we look at the southern palace, the place of 9 Purple in the universal chart, we may see that one has a 3 and the other a 7, which could mean that they are forced in opposite directions in career, or that one's career is successful at the expense of the other, or that one feels the other is riding on their reputation. This could even mean a situation where the 7 constantly works to make the 3 do what it believes is right as far as career matters are concerned, but to no avail - since the central palace numbers would be 8 and 3, which would be a difficult match at best. However, if there were elements that caused the flow of ki to smooth in other cycles, the palace of Star 6 Metal would contain compatible elements, and they could work quite well together as a team of, say, psychiatrists.
