Mission Statement
Traditions from thousands of years ago are filled with teaching as relevant to us today as they were at the time of their origin. In fact, some of the forgotten or misunderstood teachings of the sages of ancient times may be even more important to us now, because of how far out of touch we are with the specialized body of knowledge that sets the stage for the manifestation of wisdom.
The modern world is a disenchanted place, with the wonders of nature having been replaced by technology which, although nearly miraculous in effect and appearance, fails to nurture the inner self. While many people struggle to become free of superstitions and prejudices that bind them to unproductive and dis-empowering ways, they are also losing touch with the mystery that feeds the soul and the spirit.
Storytelling, poetry and drama have been replaced as the primary vehicle of education; replaced with the incessant bombardment of mass media, which is shaping the minds of millions. People on the whole are discarding the wisdom of the ancients for the opium-dreams of the marketplace we call civilization. Modern culture has become a great leveler in which individual merit is measured by how much money one makes, apparently the only activity today's institutions consider acceptable. In fact, the shaping of a homogeneous culture has demanded that most of the creative energy that propels useful scientific and social advancement be set aside in favor of an ever increasing conformity.
Our collective ancient teachings tell us of an enchanted world in which integrity, courage and honesty enabled humans to coexist with gods and magic; with miracles and wonders. In order for the world and all its beings to survive, we need to learn to re-integrate that magical part of ourselves. It is possible that the wisdom teachings of the past may act as a catalyst to spark a new revolution in human consciousness. We need to remember what is really important in life; the nurturing of our inner selves through wonder, mystery and hope in a world in that considers it impossible to live without regret.
Through the study of ancient mystical thought, it may be possible to reawaken the voice that has spoken to our hearts since the most ancient times, urging us to rise and be a part of the wonder and majesty of life.
About Us
Ancient Wisdom For Today is working on non-profit status, in the hopes of developing an organization that will promote and support worldwide dialogue on the subject of wisdom. The goal of this dialog is to re-awaken interest in this subject, which is vital for the survival of the individual and the species.
Although currently we are limited to a small website, we believe that we will grow into a larger one, and even a periodical, once the staff can be raised for the work of editing, translating and publishing the work of contributors from all over the world.
Once we have the proper structures in place, we hope to promote a "Worldwide Wisdom Conclave" which can hopefully honor the people of the Earth, back to the beginning, by encouraging everyone to accept the true legacy of our ancestors: the wisdom of how to "be" with dignity and without regret in our living world. This will require the tremendous effort of bringing together people from all walks of life and every culture on the globe to sit and wonder why modern philosophers debate things other than "what is good" and "what can be done to create a society beneficial for all".
But all of that starts here and now, with the efforts of a few people. Hopefully, as my cup runneth over, others will drink, because the universe provides us with an infinite fountain of compassion and enlightenment, if we just have the time to be with it for a moment. The spring of the wisdom of the ancients can be tapped forever without running out; it is our greatest natural resource.
So please join with us by contributing what you can and spreading the word, and enjoy the website.
